Bicentennial Of Photography Contest
Joseph Nicéphore Niépce captured the first permanent image in 1826. After an eight hour exposure, he was able to capture the view from his workroom. There have been three phases to the evolution of photography -
The Plate era;
The Film era;
Digital era.
Photography has never been so accessible nor so affordable. Remember when we would buy film (black & white or later, colour film), place it in the camera, take 12 or 24 shots and remove the film by scrolling back into the metal canister. Then going to a photography studio and paying $2 to $5 for a set of photos. It was disappointing if the film was over or under exposed. Now, a person can take numerous photos and store thousands on their phone.
Contest opens 1 Sept 2026 and closes 30 Sept 2026. Judging will take place shortly after. There is no theme. It is open to any subject matter and to photographers aged 16 years and up. Once you have your preferred photograph, please use the ENTRY FORM to upload your photograph. Do NOT email photos to frenchtoowoomba as previously advised.
One photograph will be awarded the winner from each Alliance Française and then in late 2026, the overall Australia winner will be announced by the French Embassy.
