Our organisation The Alliance Française de Toowoomba is a not-for-profit organisation, run by a committee of volunteers situated in the heart of the Darling Downs: it was formed in the 1960s by people in the community to promote French language and culture in our region. Over the years we have offered a host of social, cultural and educational activities - consider however that we form part of a larger network around the world of Alliances. So, if you have an interest in learning more about the French culture, or would like to learn the French language, contact us to discover more. We would love to hear from you.
The Alliance Française de Toowoomba is run by a committee of volunteers elected annually. At the Annual General Meeting held on Sunday, 1 December 2020 a new committee was elected. The committee is -
Alexis Tacey (President)
Avril Herdon (Treasurer)
Valma Dyer (Secretary)
Neil Hegarty (Committee member)
Julia Ballinger (Committee member).
The committee meets at least once every month, at the AFT office. All members are welcome to attend the committee meetings. If have any ideas, suggestions or comments or you would like to become engaged and involved in the AFT, please let us know.
The AFT has three past life members: Dr Peter Guastalla, Miss Gwen Dowson and Mrs Norma Thomas. Dr Guastalla, Miss Dowson and Mrs Thomas made significant contributions to the AFT during the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Their dedication, loyalty and outstanding service and contribution shaped the early days of the AFT and this contribution is still seen today through the services of the AFT.
